As a long-term Hampstead dweller committee member Kenteas Brine is enjoying the challenge of creating a Diamond Super Prize Children’s Treasure TRAIL
to encourage visitors and locals to weave their way up Heath Street
and be seduced by its array of fascinating shops, restaurants, and
landmarks. Ambling up to Whitestone Pond they’ll also enjoy the Open
Air Stage entertainment at the Baptist Church and partake of delicious
offerings!
The Diamond Trail children will be led by their
clues, rules and directions, collected at the Information Stands
(Q&A sheets available anytime between 1130am and 3pm - £3 per sheet)
to a final destination on the brow of the hill, where the attractions
continue.
It’s been a uniquely rewarding and refreshing experience to
meet and liaise with the generous participating proprietors in Heath
Street and be reminded of past discoveries and nuggets of Hampstead
history. 16th Century Highwaymen used to shoe their horses at what’s now
Asia Burroughs’ Hundred Acres Toyshop and Bernardo Stella, of La Gaffe
has a framed 1977 letter from Buckingham Palace commending him for his
Silver Jubilee poem to the Queen.
